Cap-and-trade, carbon tax, or nothing: implications for Ontario businesses

Anglès

Ontario enters the Cap-and-Trade era. Are businesses ready?

The Esade Alumni Toronto Chapter would like to invite you to a talk with Jamie MacKinnon Vice President of Environmental Solutions for Bluesource Canada, the Canadian leading firm in emissions trading.

Canada has signed-on to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and Ontario and all provinces must contribute to achieve our national commitments to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.
How do we do it, through taxation, market mechanisms, or other measures?

Ontario implemented a cap-and-trade program in 2017 to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions at the lowest cost to the economy. The program objective is first and foremost to create a price signal for GHG emissions and let market forces find the most efficient solutions.

The previous Progressive Conservative Leader proposed a carbon tax applied to all GHG emissions.
The current Leader is now vowing to kill the Liberal's carbon-pricing plan and replace it with nothing.

Markets, taxes, or nothing; what’s the right way forward? Do any of these alternatives offer opportunities to Ontario business?
