The annual tradition that gathers part of the Directors community in Toro

For the past four years, the alumni from the 6th graduating class of Esade’s Directors Program have participated in a unique, enriching annual tradition in the winemaking region of Toro.

Every June, a group of alumni from the 6th graduating class of the Directors Program meets to share a weekend of camaraderie and creativity by immersing themselves in the thrilling world of winemaking. The event, which has now been held four times, invites alumni and their partners to design their own wine under the guidance of expert oenologists. The experience begins with a painstaking selection of the grapes, from the iconic Tinta de Toro to international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. The alumni participate in each stage of the process: from the initial tasting to the choice of the barrel and the design of the label, while their partners bring their personal touch to the project.

The weekend includes tours of wineries, professional wine tastings, a lunch at the Viña del Abuelo winery, and a tour through the charming town of Toro, in Zamora. Over the course of the year, private wine tastings are held in Madrid to track the evolution of the wine and adjust the final details. Their last wine was named Buen Consejo. The group has also created its own soundtrack, which accompanies each gathering in Toro.

What makes this experience unique? The opportunity to create their own wine, from the grapes to the glass, fosters teamwork and the exchange of knowledge and strengthens the bonds of friendship. This initiative not only allows the participants to forge deep bonds with former classmates, but it also provides an informal space for networking and a learning platform for issues that are relevant to directors. “All of this is reflected in the satisfaction of bringing a wine to dinner that we have helped to create. This tradition began with the 2020-2021 graduating class, but today any alumnus from the Directors Program is welcome, and they can even create their own competition group, as long as there are at least five participants. This is an open invitation to anyone interested in sharing this experience and creating their own wine,” says  Susana Quintás (Programa de Consejeros 21).
